Science Declares This the Most Relaxing Song Ever
December 22, 2014
There’s no need for your ambient sound app anymore because scientists have announced the most relaxing song ever. It’s called “Weightless” and was specifically composed with certain rhythms and frequencies to induce relaxation.
“Weightless” was recorded through the combined efforts of sound therapists and Marconi Union, an English trio known for experimenting with electronic, new age and ambient sounds.
As the song opens, you hear a slight crescendo and notes in the lower range. Throughout the 8-minute track, a rhythm of 60 beats per minute causes brainwaves and heart rate to sync with the music. Its combination of relaxing tones, piano, guitar and ambient sounds help to reduce stress and lower your heart rate.
In a study linked to the song, scientists compared how relaxed people became when listening to different types of music. The Marconi Union tune was found to be the most relaxing, reducing overall levels of anxiety by 65%. Even relaxing go-tos like Enya and Mozart weren’t as effective at leveling out breathing, heart rate and brain activity in participants.
In fact, the song is so effective at relaxing you, you’re not supposed to listen to it while driving.
Take a listen for yourself and see if you reach a new state of zen:
